You’re absolutely correct. This is a huge deal because you need 100,000 EQMs to qualify for Executive Platinum and 75,000 EQMs for Platinum Pro. W class, specifically for United, is the lowest upgradeable economy ticket for United Polaris. There may be lots of seemingly random letters and numbers, but we’ll always be looking to tie back the knowledge to how it affects you and your exact situation. Do you earn miles based on which? The main scenarios in which the first letter of the fare basis doesn’t match the actual booking class is when there’s an instant upgrade involved. Say you’re extremely close to qualifying for Gold status with 30 EQSs and 20,000 EQMs. Very thorough article; very informative.
