A Beautiful Story of Love Between a Father and his Child - Who is the World To Him (As it should be! In a lot of ways they have done a superb job, especially of course Sean Penn, but sadly I found the underlying plot just had too many holes to make this great a great movie. Sean Penn was at his best in this role, and I can truly say that this is a film every parent should watch. He has a daughter with a homeless woman who abandons them when they leave the hospital, leaving Sam to raise Lucy on his own.

I imagine this would have been quite a difficult movie to make in terms of getting the tone of a sensitive subject like this just right. But as Lucy grows up, Sam’s limitations start to become a problem and the authorities take her away. Sam has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old. A woman gives birth and the nurses give him the baby. It resonates with you as you become a parent and learn that parenting isn't so cut and dry. A good parent can't be defined so simply. I bought (instead of rented) it for $6.99 and it was worth every penny so I can watch it again sometime.
