Elsa Lanchester is fantastic as a villainous landlandy. There is a faint whiff of ham coming off Montalban, and much as I love Elsa Lanchester she often seems to be in an entirely different film to everybody else. Procedurals can sometimes veer into dull and that's what happens here; there's not much tension until the very end. She will steal your money AND your gun. Knowing going in that it was forensics based the camera seemed to pause meaningfully on various moments of the murder, the victim hitting her head on a car door…. It's not really anything particularly interesting but with old Hollywood movies even when they're not great they're still fun to watch.
