Let's say you were to compare this to similarly budgeted first films of famous a-list filmmakers like Gareth Evans, Tarantino or Rodriguez, Prospect shines in ways that are unexpected. 130 out of 164 found this helpful. |
There are constants in this daydreaming: These characters in “Prospect” are undoubtedly human, and they have the full capacity to kill each other when treasure comes between them. Just below that it reads "Ticket Confirmation#:" followed by a 10-digit number. The film may lack the budget to have an epic cinematic masterpiece scope, but it has the strength of its cast to invest us in the characters. You couldn't fault the filmmakers for the world they created, it was truly unique and offered endless possibilities.
It might be just as good, if not better, than these films.
This is a tale of negotiations, regarding the captive always trying to reason with the one who has their finger on the trigger. |, October 7, 2019 It tells about a young teenage girl, played by Sophie Thatcher, who lands on a distant planet with her dad (Jay Duplass), to hunt and harvest precious gemstones that might be their ticket to better life and prosperity.
This is a smart, well done film that relies on good writing, action, and imagination. Love the realistic action of the gunplay; these weapons are certainly from tomorrow but there's no pew pew here. And the score is perfect.
FAQ They created a separate written language just for consoles and sketchpads, never even calling it out(they did that in Star Wars, look it up.) After the space race of the ‘60s, we took off to other lands in ships before the invention of digital interfaces, traversing them in bulky, brown suits that kind of look like scuba diving outfits.
| Rating: 6/10 What it is to me is a glimpse into the future of movies. Prospect is a rare sci fi indie gem.
What's not to like?
He enters the story as a side character, as someone you don’t trust, and while he continues to be conniving, your sympathy evolves for him in a way that’s no less than surprising. I'd never hear of it before and initially started watching because I saw it was made by Dust - a company of which I'm a fan of on YouTube, they make a lot of little sci-fi shorts posted there. A first real hard SF in a loooooong time! Get the freshest reviews, news, and more delivered right to your inbox! Most of it is really space-fantasy, with laser cannons, explosions, space craft zipping around, fantastic monsters/aliens, etc.
Every piece of gear should look rusty, hand cobbled and it does.
Stunning costume and set design and a wonderfully real feeling science fiction world. In case you can't tell, I've very much in favour of there being more films like this out there.
| Thoroughly enjoyable: a lean, tense, slow burn sci-fi film that builds to an exciting crescendo. This is how you make small budget scifi. |, March 18, 2018
No mention of earth.
The aesthetic reminds me a bit of these old scifi shows/films from the 80-90 cyber revolution Desert Punk and Zeiram. |, November 5, 2018

I absolutely LOVE the look and feel of this film...obviously futuristic but in a dirty, mechanical way- no polish to be found here. Well worth a watch. But it's been a long while that I have enjoyed every second. (This review originally ran during our coverage of the 2018 SXSW Film Festival. It's a minimalist science fiction film that builds an impressive atmosphere, but that can't escape from superficiality.

Given its budget restrictions, the film wisely chooses to show us the fringes of this future world where the lower social strata struggles to survive with make-shift means of transportation and low-fi space gear.

I like that there are still low-budget sci-fi theatrical releases. With an overall score of 68 out of 100, it said the film had "generally favorable reviews". If you're a big fan of CGI or mind-blowing cinematography then you may feel underwhelmed by this, and that's OK. It being a good movie seems like a bonus. Every piece of technology looks used and beat up, lived in and thats so important. | Rating: B |, September 29, 2020 The people who made this film have bright things ahead of them, that much is certain. 'Prospect' is a visually stunning film and may be one of the best lower budget sci-fi films we've seen in years. Just confirm how you got your ticket. If you want lasers, explosions, and a fast pace - skip it. Prospect is a rare beauty.
8/10 overall, but it's a 10/10 if exclusively considered next to other smaller-scale science fiction pictures. Maybe “Prospect,” which is full of rusted out control panels and has a space ship interior that looks like the inside of a Winnebago, takes place in 1996, but just in another dimension.
